Nachtgesang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Neige, Nacht, dich leise nieder,
löse linde meine Leiden,
schlinge schirmend deinen Schlummerarm
um die schmerzenschweren Glieder.
Senk’ mir in die sehnsuchtsmüde Seele
deine sorgelösenden Gesänge,
daß im Dämmerduft des Traumes
wieder in mir auferwachen
all die wilden, wonnevollen,
goldnen Glücksgedankenflammen,
die im Leben längst erloschen.

Night song
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Night, come down softly,
gently dissolve my sorrows,
protectively wrap your arms of slumber
around my pain-weary limbs.
Into my soul that is weary of longing
sink your care-easing songs,
so that in the twilight fragrance of a dream
within me will awaken again
all of the wild, joyful
flaming thoughts of golden happiness,
which in real life were extinguished long ago.
