Parfois aussi le dard d'un insecte jaloux Inquiétait le col des belles sous les branches, Et c'étaient des éclairs soudains des nuques blanches, Et ce régal comblait nos jeunes yeux de fous. Die hohen Pumps mit langen Röcken rangen, so dass, je nach Terrain und Brise unverhofft zuweilen blitzten Fesseln auf - die allzu oft jedoch bedeckt! - Wie liebten wir dies neckisch’ Unterfangen! Wenn eifersücht’ge Mücken stechen, saugen am Hals der Schönen unter Zweigen, aufblitzend sich dann weiße Nacken zeigen - sie lockten unsre jungen, liebestollen Augen. Der Abend sank, ein zwielichtiges Raunen: Die Schönen schmiegten sich an uns, wie traumverloren, sie flüsterten besondre Worte, auserkoren, dass unsre Seelen seither zittern, staunen.

Ein alter Faun aus gebranntem Ton steht grinsend in des Rasens Mitte. Er kündet ohne Zweifel, dass Schlimmes diesen heitren Stunden folgt, die mich und dich - bedrückte Pilger - hingeführt zu dieser Stunde, die wirbelnd nun beim Schlag der Trommeln flieht.

Im Park, dem verlassnen, alten, kalten wandelten vorhin zwei Gestalten. Die Augen tot und die Münder verdorrt, vernimmt man von ihnen kaum ein Wort. Im alten Park, der verlassen, vereist, beschwören sie der Vergangenheit Geist. „Weißt du noch, wie verzückt unsre Sinne?“ „Warum willst du, dass ich mich erinnre?“ „Dein Herz, schlägt es immer noch mir allein? Erschein’ ich im Traum dir weiterhin?“ - „Nein.“ „Ach, war sie nicht herrlich, die Zeit zu zwein, da wir uns inniglich küssten!“ - „Kann sein.“ „Wie blau war der Himmel, die Hoffnung groß.“ „Sie floh besiegt. Schwarzer Himmel ihr Los.“ So zogen die beiden durchs Wildgras fort, allein die Nacht lauschte noch ihrem Wort.
