Wie fremd und wunderlich das ist, Daß immerfort in jeder Nacht Der leise Brunnen weiterfließt, Vom Ahornschatten kühl bewacht. Und immer wieder wie ein Duft Der Mondschein auf den Giebeln liegt Und durch die kühle, dunkle Luft Die leichte Schar der Wolken fliegt! Das alles steht und hat Bestand, Wir aber ruhen eine Nacht Und gehen weiter über Land, Wird uns von niemand nachgedacht. Und dann, vielleicht nach manchem Jahr, Fällt uns im Traum der Brunnen ein Und Tor und Giebel, wie es war Und jetzt noch und noch lang wird sein. Wie Heimatahnung glänzt es her Und war doch nur zu kurzer Rast Ein fremdes Dach dem fremden Gast, Er weiß nicht Stadt, nicht Namen mehr.
