Hör vilken kvittrande livssalighet i snåren! Skummande, glittrande, halvvild av våren störtar en källa fram. Ljuvliga bad för svidande ögon in sol och damm. Glömt är vart lidande vägen skänkte. Trolldom stänkte du, skogens häxa, på mina sinnen, nu går jag vettvill i skratt och gråt, nu hör jag gräset växa, nu förstår jag fåglalåt.

Ut er din bräckta bur, du själens stolta örn. Det svarta seglet, o min amur, det skuggar för min syn, det växer och växer, jag vet ej hur, men himlen själv blir svart. Isolde, guldharpa, hjärtats lust, min langtans höga dam jag hör som ett svall från Cornwalls kust och känner som en doft från soliga ängars djupa must och skumma skogars ro. O, vore jag där! Men allt är slut. Nu klämta klockor snart. En kämpe mot ödet har kämpat ut. Var seglet svart? Nej vitt Nyss sade man svart. Hör stormens tjut. Min örn i molnen står.
