Die Braut möcht jeder schwingen.

Sie kühlet hold umfangen
Am Fenster sich die Wangen;
Die Nonne schaut herüber,
Ihr gehn die Augen über:

"Wie glüht im Rosenglanze
Sie unterm weißen Kranze,
Und unter roter Rose
Erbleich ich Freudenlose.

Dans le jardin se tient la nonne
Près des roses dans l'éclat du soleil,
Qui lui tressent une couronne
À gauche et à droite.

Par ici depuis la salle
Résonnent d'un banquet de noces
Les danses et les chants ;
Chacun voudrait danser avec la fiancée.

Tendrement étreinte elle rafraîchit
À la fenêtre ses joues ;
La nonne regarde par là,
Ses yeux vont sur elle :

« Comme elle brille dans l'éclat des roses
Sous le voile blanc,
Et sous les roses rouges,
Sans joie, je pâlis. »
