Im Januar
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Zu den winterkahlen Zweigen
feierlich in leichtem Reigen
Stern um Sterne niedersteigen
aus dem sammetschwarzen Schweigen
dieser wundersamen Nacht.
Was ist Nähe - - was ist Ferne?
Und ich pflücke mir der Sterne
Silberfrüchte. Und ich lerne:
alles gibt Natur dir gerne,
wenn du selber gern dich gibst.

In January
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Down to the winter-stripped branches
Ceremoniously in a light roundelay
Star upon star descends
From out the velvety dark silence
Of this wondrous night
What is nearness - - what is distance?
And I pick for myself the stars'
Silvery fruit. And I learn:
Nature gives you everything gladly
If you gladly surrender yourself.
