[Von dunklem]1 Schleier umsponnen
Ist mir das Tageslicht;
Wohl steigen neue Sonnen, --
Ich seh' sie nicht.

Mir schweift der Blick hinüber
In Weiten, dämmerfern;
Vom Himmel blinkt ein trüber,
Einsamer Stern.

Ein Mädchen, bleich von Wangen,
Winkt mir von drüben zu:
"Ich bin vorangegangen,
Was zögerst du?"

Come avvolta da un velo scuro
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the German (Deutsch)
Come avvolta da un velo scuro
è, per me, la luce del giorno;
sorgessero pure nuovi soli,
non riuscirei a vederli.

Il mio sguardo va errando
in lontananza nel crepuscolo;
dal cielo riluce opaca
una stella solitaria.

Una fanciulla, dalle pallide guance,
mi fa cenno da là:
"Io sono andata avanti,
perché indugi?"
