Qui vol viatjar a terra estrangera, hi ha d'anar amb la seva estimada, els altres s'alegren i al foraster el deixen sol. Què sabeu vosaltres, foscos brancams dels bells temps antics? Ai, la pàtria darrere els cims, perquè és tan lluny d'aquí? M'estimo més mirar les estrelles que brillaven quan la vaig anar a trobar, de bon grat escoltava el rossinyol que cantava davant la porta de l'estimada. El matí és la meva joia! A aquesta hora tranquil·la pujo al cim més alt i, de la llunyania, et saludo, Alemanya, de tot cor.
