שומע אני את הפלג המפכה ביער לכאן ולכאן. ביער, לקול הרחש אינני יודע היכן אני. הזמירים שרים כאן בבדידות כאילו רוצים הם לספר על הזמנים היפים שחלפו. ניצנוץ הירח זע כאילו אני רואה מתחתי את הטירה השוכנת בעמק, והוא כה רחוק ממני. כאילו מוכרחת, בתוך הגינה עטורת ורדים לבנים ואדומים, להמתין אהובתי עבורי. אך היא כבר מזמן בין המתים.
