Zilv’ren maan, met bleke stralen
Pleeg je bos en veld te malen,
Geeft de bergen, geeft de dalen
Zuchten van ontroering mee.
 
Neem toch kennis van mijn smarten,
Zeiler op de luchtenzee:
Zeg haar die ik draag in ’t harte,
Hoe ik sterf van liefdeswee.
 
Zeg haar dat 'k met heel mijn wezen
Haar nog mis en van haar hou.
“Geen ver weg zijn kan ’t genezen,
Slechts een lieve blik van jou.”
 
Zeg haar, dat de dood komt slopen
Dit omhulsel, weldra koud;
Dat een zelfbedriegend hopen
’t Enkel nog tezamenhoudt.
