Du kommst zu mir im Traume
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): CAT ENG
Du kommst zu mir im Traume,
So wie du leibst und lebst,
Und weilst bei mir im Raume
Voll Huld, bis du entschwebst.
Ich sehe dich vor mir stehen
Mit deiner schönen Gestalt,
Und Zeichen und Wunder geschehen
Aus deiner Zaubergewalt.
Sammtweiche, dunkle Augen,
Langwimperig, schauen mich an,
Blinzelnde Blicke saugen
Am Herzen dem seligen Mann.
Die Lippen so roth und minnig,
Sie lächeln den meinen so nah,
Sie plaudern so süß und sinnig
Von Glück, und das Glück ist da.
So spiegeln meine Träume
Mir deines Bildes Glanz
Wie sprühende Wellenschäume
Des Regenbogens Kranz.
Du aber, du Strahlende, sage:
Darf ich mit Liebesmacht
Zu dir nicht kommen bei Tage
Wie du zu mir bei Nacht?

You come to me in my dreams
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
You come to me in my dreams,
Just as you are in real life,
And you linger beside me in the room
Full of benevolence, before you float away.
I [still] see you standing before me
With your beautiful figure,
And signs and miracles occur
Through your magical power.
Velvet-soft, dark eyes,
Long-lashed, gaze at me,
Blinking glances attach themselves
To the heart of the bliss-filled man.
Your lips so red and loving,
They smile so close to mine,
They speak so sweetly and passionately
Of joy, and joy is there.
Thus my dreams mirror
The radiance of your image
Like the spraying foam of the waves
[Mirrors] the wreath of the rainbow.
But you, you shining one, tell me:
May I not with the might of love
Come to you by day
As you come to me by night?
