Das Bächlein
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Das Bächlein in der Wiese
Weiß zu erzählen viel,
Als käm's vom Paradiese
Und von der Engel Spiel.
Mit großen Augen schauen
Die Blumen in die Flut,
Wo wunderbar im Blauen
Der ganze Himmel ruht.
Und selbst die Sterne neigen
Sich lauschend bis zum Grund,
Wenn durch das Abendschweigen
Noch plauscht des Bächleins Mund.
Ich seh' die Wasser rinnen
Und hör' dem Murmeln zu,
Und immer muß ich sinnen:
So glücklich warst auch du!

The brooklet
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The brooklet in the meadow
Knows many tales to tell,
As if it came from paradise
And from the angels’ playing.
With large eyes the flowers
Gaze into the waters,
Where wondrously in the blueness
The entire heavens rest.
And the stars themselves bend down
Listening toward the ground,
When through the silence of evening
The brooklet still chatters.
I see the water flowing
And I listen to the murmuring,
And always must I think:
You, too, were that happy once!
