Am Strande

Language: German (Deutsch)

Es sprechen und blicken die Wellen
Mit sanfter Stimme,
Mit freundlichem Blick,
Und wiegen die träumende Seele
In ferne Tage zurück.

Aus fernen, verklungene Tagen
Spricht's heimlich
Mit sanften Stimmen zu mir.
Schaut's heimlich
Mit freundlichen Blicken
Zum Wandrer am Strande hier.

Mir ist, als hätten die Stimmen
Die je die Seele
Mir sanft bewegt
Und alle die freundlichen Blicke
Sich in die Wellen gelegt.

Op het strand

Language: Dutch (Nederlands) after the German (Deutsch)

Ze spreken en kijken, de golven,
Met zachte stemmen,
Met vriend’lijke blik,
En wiegen de dromende ziel zo
Naar verre dagen terug.

Het verre, verklonken verleden
Spreekt heim’lijk
Met zachte stemmen tot mij,
Kijkt heim’lijk
Met vriend’lijke blikken
Naar d’ eenling op ‘t strand vlakbij.

Het is, als hadden de stemmen,
Die ooit mijn ziel
Hadden zacht ontroerd,
En ook alle vriend’lijke blikken
Zich in de golven gevoerd.
