Le vin de la vie s'échappe dans le sable,
Mon cœur est comme une terre qui connaît la faim,
Où tous les biens se meurent et certainement :
Si je dois me tenir devant Dieu hors de ces ténèbres,
Je devrais me trouver dans le feu du soleil.
« Il dort peut-être, chevauche pour la chasse,
Comme Baal, quand tout le jour devant les piliers du Carmel,
Ses prophètes hurlent ce nom.
Non, silence, encore avant la nuit je regarderai surtout
Les pieds de bronze, la robe blanche comme la flamme,
Les mains blessées, le visage plein de souffrance.
