Aber abseits wer ist's?

Language: German (Deutsch) after the German (Deutsch)

Aber abseits wer ist's?
Im Gebüsch verliert sich der Pfad.
Hinter ihm schlagen
Die Sträuche zusammen,
Das Gras steht wieder auf,
Die Öde verschlingt ihn.

Ach, wer heilet die Schmerzen
Des, dem Balsam zu Gift ward?
Der sich Menschenhaß
Aus der Fülle der Liebe trank?
Erst verachtet, nun ein Verächter,
Zehrt er heimlich auf
Seinen [eignen]1 Wert
In [ung'nugender]2 Selbstsucht.

Ist auf deinem Psalter,
Vater der Liebe, ein Ton
Seinem Ohre vernehmlich,
So erquicke sein Herz!
Öffne den umwölkten Blick
Über die tausend Quellen
Neben dem Durstenden
In der Wüste!

Maar ter zijde, wie ‘s daar?

Language: Dutch (Nederlands) after the German (Deutsch)

Maar ter zijde, wie ‘s daar?
In ’t struweel verliest zich zijn pad.
Achter hem sluiten
De struiken zich samen,
Het gras richt zich weer op,
De ruigte verzwelgt hem.

Ach, wie heelt hém van pijnen,
Voor wie balsem vergif werd?
Die zich mensenhaat
Uit de volheid der liefde dronk?
Eerst geminacht, nu zelf verachter,
Put hij heim’lijk uit
Slechts zijn eigen kracht
In frustrerende zelfzucht.

Is wel op uw psalter,
Vader der liefde, één toon
Voor zijn oren verstaanbaar?
O, verkwik dan zijn hart!
Open zijn bewolkte blik
Boven de duizend bronnen
Vlak bij de dorstende
In de zandzee!
