Auf dem Meere
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Wechselnd sinkt das Schiff und schwebt
Auf des Meeres hohen Wogen,
Unterm grossen Himmelsbogen,
Doch zu dir mein Geist sich hebt.
Was auch bringe das Geschick,
Mit den Wellen sterbend ringend
Wird zu dir noch sehnend schwingend
Richten sich mein letzter Blick.

Upon the ocean
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The ship alternates between sinking and soaring
Upon the high waves of the ocean
Under the great arch of the heavens;
My spirit nevertheless lifts itself toward you.
Whatever fate may bring,
Were I wrestling with the waves in death
My last glance will still longingly
Rise up toward you.
Translation of subtitle: "An die Geliebte" = "To my beloved"
