Nun muß ich immer an dich denken
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Nun muß ich immer an dich denken[,]
Dein Bild geht mit mir überall,
Es flistert mir so süße Klänge
Wie Liebesruf der Nachtigall.
Es wiederholt, was Du gesprochen:
Daß Deine Seele mich erwählt,
Ich kann es Dir nicht wiedersagen
Was mir Dein liebes Bild erzählt.
So treu bewahr ich das Geheimniß,
Das unsre Herzen eng verflicht,
Daß ich dir selbst nicht anvertraue,
Was mir Dein Bild sagt und verspricht.
Dein Bild das nur in meinem Innern
Wie eine schöne Sage lebt,
So daß ein Zaubertraum mich dünket
Das süße Glück, das ich erstrebt.
Das süße Glück, daß Du so innig
Mir all Dein Seyn ergeben hast,
Daß ich nach irr'ndem Gang gefunden
An Deinem Herzen Ruh und Rast.
Doch fand ich Ruh? -- Mich trieb's von dannen,
Weit, weit von Dir ab geht mein Lauf!
Doch unsres Glückes Götterstunde
Wiegt Tage, Monden, Jahre auf.

Now I must always think of you
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Now I must always think of you,
Your image accompanies me everywhere,
It whispers such sweet sounds to me
Like the love-call of the nightingale.
It repeats what you have spoken:
That your soul has chosen me.
I cannot repeat it back to you
What your dear image told me.
So faithfully do I cherish the secret
That tightly entwines our hearts
That I do not even confide to you yourself
What your image says to me and promises me.
Your image, that only within me
Lives like a beautiful legend,
So that it seems to me like a magical dream,
The sweet happiness to which I aspired.
The sweet happiness that you so fervently
Gave me all of your being;
That after following wrong paths, I found
Peace and rest upon your heart.
Yet did I find rest? -- I was driven thither,
Far, far from you my travels go!
But the divine hour of our happiness
Offsets days, moons, years.
