Hat der junge Geigenmacher
Mit dem Tagwerk aufgeräumt,
Sitzt er gern, ein seligwacher,
Auf der Lindenbank und träumt.
Auf der schönsten seiner Geigen
Träumt er einen Herzenstraum,
Vollmond steigt und Sterne steigen,
Silbern steht der Blütenbaum.
Wie die weichen Töne singen,
Wird es stiller, als es war,
Und die Gartenlilien bringen
Alle ihre Düfte dar.
Nicht ein Hauch aus Wälderfernen,
Nicht ein Laut fällt störend ein,
Über Blumen, unter Sternen,
Klingt das süße Lied allein.

Le jeune luthier
A terminé son travail du jour,
Il s'assoit, veilleur bienheureux,
Sur le banc du tilleul et rêve.
Sur le plus beau de ses violons
Il imagine un rêve sentimental,
La plaine lune et les étoiles se lèvent,
Et là se dresse le tilleul argenté.
Alors que chantent les douces notes,
Tout devient plus tranquille
Et les lis du jardin
Répandent tout leur parfum.
Pas un souffle n'arrive de la forêt lointaine,
Pas un bruit dérangeant ne survient,
Sur les fleurs, sous les étoiles,
Seule retentit la douce mélodie.
