La sérénade

Par-dessus les toits, entre les pâles nuées,
 la lune apparaît.
Dans la petite rue là-bas, un damoiseau 
chante devant le seuil de sa bien-aimée. 

Dans la paisible solitude 
les fontaines murmurent à nouveau
ainsi que les bois là-bas dans la montagne,
comme aux jours heureux d’antan.

Moi aussi, aux jours de ma jeunesse,
j’ai passé bien des nuits 
à pincer mon luth,
et à inventer des chansons légères. 

Mais, depuis le seuil silencieux, 
on a porté ma bien-aimée à son dernier repos.
Eh bien toi, gai compagnon, 
chante, chante à n’en plus finir....
