You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of April 20, we are $4,600 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today and join dozens of other supporters in making this important renovation possible!

Der Bauer

Language: German (Deutsch)

   Der Bauer streut den Samen
Wohl auf das frische Feld;
Jed Körnlein hat gezählet
Der [Herr der ganzen]1 Welt.

   Das Korn liegt in der Erde
Die Arbeit ist gethan;
Ein Vater Unser betet
Drauf still der Bauersmann.

   Gott hat es wohl vernommen
Des Bauern stilles Flehn,
Hat auch sein fromm Gemüthe
[Vom Himmel wohl]2 gesehn.

   Drum legt Er Seinen Segen
Auf jedes Körnchen klein,
Gibt Thau und frischen Regen
Und milden Sonnenschein.

   Bald wogen goldne Saaten
Mit Rauschen hin und her,
Und volle Aehren neigen
Sich nieder reich und schwer.

   Der Wagen ist geladen,
Die Pferde ziehen an:
"Nun zu, -- in Gottes Namen!"
Spricht [froh]3 der Bauersmann.

   "Gelobt sei Gottes Treue,
Gelobt sei Gottes Gnad',
Die heuer uns auf's Neue
So reich gesegnet hat!"

   So singt er froh im Fahren
Dem Herrn der Herrlichkeit;--
Bet' nur und schaff' das Deine,
So hilft Gott allezeit!
