Fromme Bergleute
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Fromme Bergleut', sitzen wir
Hier in trautem Rund',
Haben Wein und haben Bier
Und sehr durst'gen Mund.
Fromme Bergleut' trinken gern
Wenn die Gläser voll,
Preisen auch darnach den Herrn,
Wie ein Jeder soll.
Fromme Bergleut' küssen auch
Gern ein schönes Kind,
Ist’s doch alter Bergmann'sbrauch [sic],
Wie noch viele sind.
Fromme Bergleut' sind auch noch
Freunde vom Gesang,
Singen d'rum, befreit vom Joch,
Ganze Nächte lang.
Fromme Bergleut' thun allein
Dieß zum Lob des Herrn,
Nur die Zeche für den Wein
Zahlt kein Einz'ger gern.

Good miners
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Good miners, we sit
Here in a cosy circle,
We have wine and we have beer
And a very thirsty mouth.
Good miners like drinking
When the glasses are full,
Afterwards they praise the Lord
As everyone should.
Good miners also like
Kissing a lovely girl,
For it is an old custom of miners,
As there are many more [old customs].
Good miners are as well
Friends of singing,
Therefore they sing, freed from the yoke of toil,
Whole nights through.
Good miners do this solely
To the praise of the Lord,
But not a single one of them likes
Paying the bill for the wine.
