On niin hiljaista, niin salaperäistä ympärilläni Aurinko on laskenut, päivä haihtui jo. Miten nopeasti nyt ilta hämärtyykään. Minulle se sopii, yleensä on liikaa melua. Mutta nyt on rauhallista, mikään seppä ei tao, ei peltiseppäkään, väsyneet ihmiset ovat poissa. Ja etteivät vaunujen pyörätkään rämisisi, levitti lumi vaippansa kujien ylle. Miten hyvältä tuntuukaan tämä ihana rauha! Pimeässä minä istun, irti kaikesta, kokonaan itseäni varten. Vain kuunvalo tulee hiljaa kammiooni. Se tuntee minut kyllä ja saan olla vaiti. Se vain ryhtyy työhönsä, ottaa värttinän ja kultaa ja kehrää tyynenä, kutoo herttaisesti hymyillen ja ripustaa sitten hohtavan huntunsa ylt’ympäri huonekalujen ja seinien peitoksi. Se on rauhallinen, mieluisa vierailu, ei millään lailla häiritse kodissani. Jos se tahtoo jäädä, se sopii kyllä, kun se ei enää viihdy, se lähtee pois. Silloin istun mielelläni vaiti ikkunan äärellä katsellen pilviä ja tähtiä siellä ylhäällä. Ajattelen menneitä, niin kaukana olevaa ihanaa, menettämääni aikaa. Ajattelen sitä, rakkauden onnea, huokailen hiljaa ja kaipaan, kaipaan.
