Kinderlied für Agnes
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
Dort an der Kirchhofmauer,
da sitz' ich auf der Lauer,
da sitz' ich gar zu gern;
es regt sich im Holunder,
es regnet mir herunter
Rosin' and Mandelkern.
Waldwibichlein, das kleine,
das goldige, das feine,
das hat es mir gebracht.
Es hat ein Schloß im Berge,
das hüten sieben Zwerge,
darin ist große Pracht.
Und es hat mir versprochen,
in aberhundert Wochen,
wenn Agnes wacker sei,
da käm' es in dem Schlitten,
zu Gaste mich zu bitten;
da seid fein auch dabei!

Child's Song for Agnes
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
There at the churchyard wall
I sit waiting;
too well I love to sit there;
there is motion in the elderberries,
there underneath it's raining
raisins and almonds.
A little nuthatch,
golden, dainty,
has brought it to me.
He has a castle in the mountains,
where the seven dwarfs live,
that is filled with great splendor.
And he has promised me
that, in another hundred weeks,
if Agnes is good,
he will come in a sleigh
to invite me to be a guest,
which would be truly fine.
