Verloren

Ich hatt' ein Täubchen
So lieb! so schön!
Ich mußt' es immer
Und immer sehn;
War mir das Liebste
Der ganzen Welt,
Hätt's nicht gelassen
Um alles Geld.
Das hab' ich verloren
Und such' es nun,
Und kann nicht bleiben,
Und kann nicht ruhn;
Ich such's im Felde,
Ich such's im Hain,
Und find' es nimmer,
Und kehr' allein,
Und [sehe]1 mit Thränen
Zur Ferne hinaus:
Es ist verloren!
Es bleibet aus!

Lost
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
I had a little dove
So dear! so lovely!
I wanted to look upon it
Always and always;
It was the dearest thing
In the whole world to me,
I would not have let it go
For all the money in the world.
That [dove] I have lost,
And I seek it now,
And cannot remain anywhere,
And cannot rest;
I seek it in the field,
I seek it in the grove,
I never find it,
And return alone,
And with tears I look
Out into the distance:
It is lost!
It remains away!
