Noch klingt über blühende Gärten
Helljubelnder Lerchenschlag --
Ich wollt, er wär erst vorüber,
Der leuchtende Frühlingstag.
Ich mag von dem Singen nichts hören,
Mich blendet die Blütenpracht,
Mein jauchzendes Glück wohnt im Schatten
Der seligen Maiennacht.
O dort, in verschwiegner Stille
Das Plätzchen, so heimlich traut,
Berauschender duftet der Flieder,
Von Tränen und Nacht betaut.
Violen und Balsaminen
Öffnen die Kelche weit –
Zwei Menschenkinder versinken
In Wonne und Seligkeit.
Noch klingt über blühende Gärten
Helljubelnder Lerchenschlag --
Ich wollt, er wär erst vorüber,
Der leuchtende Frühlingstag!

Above blooming gardens there still sounds
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Above blooming gardens there still sounds
The throbbing of brightly rejoicing larks --
I wish it were already over,
The radiant spring day.
I do not like to hear anything of the singing,
I am bedazzled by the flowery splendour;
My exulting happiness lives in the shadows
Of the blessed May night.
Oh there, in secret silence,
Is the place, so dearly familiar;
The lilac pours forth its scent more intoxicatingly,
Bedewed by tears and night.
Violas and yellow balsam
Open wide their calyces --
Two humans sink down
In joy and bliss.
Above blooming gardens there still sounds
The throbbing of brightly rejoicing larks --
I wish it were already over,
The radiant spring day.
