Abschiedsstrauss
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Den Strauß, den mir mein Schatz geschenkt
Beim Abschied für den Hut,
Hab ich mit einem Stein versenkt
Wohl in die tiefe Flut.
Die welken Blumen mag ich nicht,
Mein Schatz denkt ebenso,
Viel lieber pflück ich voll und licht,
Mir andre irgendwo.
Und seh ich all die Blumen klar
An Wegen ein und aus,
Da denk ich, die und jene war
Auch mit in meinem Strauß.
Durch alle Welt, von Ort zu Ort,
Blüht es von Blumen licht,
In meiner Brust der Liebsten Wort
Verfehlt die rechten nicht.

Farewell nosegay
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The nosegay that my darling gave me
For my hat when we parted,
I sank it, tied to a stone,
Deep into the floodwaters.
I do not like the wilting flowers,
My darling is of the same mind;
I would rather pick others, full and bright,
Somewhere for myself.
And when I see all the vivid flowers
Along the pathways here and there,
Then I imagine that this one and that one
Were also part of my nosegay.
Through all the world, from place to place,
Bright flowers bloom,
In my breast the words of my beloved
Do not fail to spot the right ones.
