Anima
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
In the marketplace lay the child, fallen to its death,
in blue clothing, twisted into a lifeless bundle.
The bird had attracted it, that in the wind
had flown up to the morning window.
The mother came and took it in her lap.
She did not weep. She was able to pray.
The square was like Sunday, bright and grand.
Consolation from on high had entered in.
O birds, fly, fly up into the wind!
And window-play and sky-blue child.
