Spinnt schon Purpur her und hin;
Will mich Wehmut überwinden,

Nimmer! denn vom Walde klingen
Märlein mir und Sprüchelein,
Die mir süße Tröstung bringen
Ob erstorbnem Sonnenschein.
Ja, erstorben ist die Sonne
Und ihr Strahl ist ohne Macht!
Dennoch spricht von ferner Wonne
Greiser Wipfel Farbenpracht.

En dépit de l'éclat du soleil mourant.
Oui, le soleil s'est éteint
