You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Wasserfahrt am Morgen

Language: German (Deutsch)

Verlass die dunkle Hütte,
beflügle deine Schritte,
und komm in Zephyrtritte,
komm an des Ufers Rand!
dort schaukelt uns der leichte Kahn,
auf silberheller Wogenbahn
den breiten stillen See hinan,
bis an die Felsenwand.

O schau' am Himmelsthore
die glänzende Aurore,
vernimm mit trunknem Ohre
der Vögel muntre Schaar!
wie heiter ist die Luft, wie blau!
Im Blumenschmelze prangt die Au'
und weder Nebel netzt noch Thau
dein blond gelocktes Haar.

Du schlägst das Auge nieder?
Lass lauschend auf' die Lieder,
nur deine zarten Glieder
auf weichem Kissen ruhn!
die Silberwoge kräselt sich,
ein sanfter Wind um säuselt dich,
und freundlich schützet dich und mich
der mächtige Neptun.

Und flattert dir auch freier
um Brust und Hals der Schleier,
und setzt die Wang' in Feuer
durch lose Schelmerein:
so mache, dämpfend diese Glut,
den Fehler, Liebchen, wieder gut,
und lass die ungetrübte Flut
der Schönheit Spiegel seyn.
