Und geh hinauf ins Haus:
Sie sitzt zwischen Vater und Mutter,
Schaut kaum zu den Äuglein heraus.

O Sommer, schöner Sommer,
Wie wird die Welt so weit!
Je höher man steigt auf die Berge,
Je weiter sie sich verbreit't.

Und stehest du auf dem Felsen,
Traut' Liebchen! ich rufe dir zu.
Die Halle sagen es weiter,
Doch Niemand hört es als du.

Und halt' ich dich in den Armen
Auf freien Bergeshöh'n:

Jij duwt ons terug in de dalen,
In ons enge huttendomein.
 
En zelfs als ik daar langs kom,
Voorbij mijn liefste's huis,
Kijkt nauwelijks haar kopje
Uit 't raampje van haar kluis.
 
En durf 'k het toch te wagen
En ga ik naar haar huis:
Zij zit tussen vader en moeder,
En geeft met haar ogen niet thuis.
 
O zomer, mooie zomer,
Wat wordt de wereld wijd!
Hoe hoger men stijgt op de bergen,
Hoe verder zij zich verwijdt.
 
En sta je op de rotsen,
Lief schatje! Dan roep ik jou blij.
De echo's dragen het verder,
Maar niemand hoort het dan jij.
 
En houd ik jou in mijn armen
Daarboven in 't alpien,
Dan zien wij de wijde landen,
Maar worden zelf niet gezien.
