So hab' ich endlich ihn bezwungen, Den Knaben, der die Welt bezwingt! Ich habe müde mich gerungen, Drum, Brüder, kommt zu mir und trinkt! Er griff mich an in diesem Keller Und stieß an's Glas mir ohne Scham, Als eben meinen leeren Teller Die Kellnerin vom Tische nahm. Der Schaum bespritzte mir die Nase, Und solch ein Nießen kam mich an, Daß aus dem übervollen Glase Der Wein mir in den Ärmel rann. Er lachte hinter meinem Stuhle, Da sprang ich auf und faßt' ihn baß, Und leicht, wie eine Federspule, Warf ich ihn nieder auf ein Faß. Da lag er, ohne sich zu regen, Und schrie und schluchzte jämmerlich. Ich ließ mein gutes Herz bewegen, Und sprach zu ihm: So trolle dich! Doch seht, was ich ihm abgenommen, Eh' ich ihn aus der Thüre ließ! Nun mag er immer wiederkommen, Der Ritter ohne Schild und Spieß! Zum ersten seine Augenbinde, Die dient mir jetzt zum Tellertuch, Und, wenn ich abgenutzt sie finde, Für einen Spund zum Überzug. Mit seinen scharf gespitzten Pfeilen Da bohr' ich meine Fässer an, Vielleicht, daß ich sie auch zuweilen Als Propfenzieher brauchen kann. Und seine Fackel soll mir leuchten In schwarzer Nacht aus jedem Schmaus, Wenn mir der Weg zu glatt will däuchten, Und sich im Wirbel dreht mein Haus.

Alors je l'ai enfin maté, Le gars qui mate le monde ! Je me suis bien battu, Du coup, frère, viens boire avec moi ! Il m'a attaqué dans ce cabaret Et bouscula mon verre sans vergogne, Alors même que la serveuse Retirait de la table mon assiette vide. La moutarde me monta au nez, Et je fus pris d'un tel éternuement Que le vin du verre rempli à ras bord M'éclaboussa les manches. Il rit derrière ma chaise, Alors je me levai et le pris par surprise, Et aussi facilement que pour une plume, Je le jetai par terre contre un tonneau. Il était là sans bouger, Et criait et sanglotait piteusement. Mon cœur compatissant en fut touché Et je lui dis : "Ça va, tire-toi !" Mais voyez ce que je lui ai soutiré Avant qu'il ne passe la porte ! Maintenant il peut toujours revenir, Le chevalier sans écu ni lance ! D'abord son bandeau Qui me sert maintenant de torchon, Et quand je le trouverai usé De bourre pour oreiller. Avec ses flèches pointues J'ai mis mon tonneau en perce, Peut-être pourrai-je aussi parfois Les utiliser comme tire-bouchon. Et son fanal pourra m'éclairer Dans les nuits noires de bombance Quand le chemin me semblera trop glissant Et que ma maison tournera vertigineusement.
