Heimweg vom Wirtshaus

Language: German (Deutsch)

Wunderliches Wehgefühl,
Wenn ich meinen Tisch verlassen
Und die Nacht so still und kühl
Wandelt durch die leeren Gassen!

Müde und vom Wein berauscht,
Hab ich oft dem bangen Winde
Durch die Straßen nachgelauscht,
Traumbewegt gleich einem Kinde.

Irgend ein geheimer Gruß,
Irgend ein geheimes Singen,
Irgend eine Liebe muß'
In dem leisen Brausen klingen.

Eine stille Güte auch
Hat der Ton in mir beschworen --
Ist es jener Jugend Hauch,
Die ich schon so lang verloren?

Chemin de  l'auberge à la maison

Language: French (Français) after the German (Deutsch)

Bizarre sensation de douleur
Quand je quittai ma table,
Et par une nuit si calme et froide
Marchai dans les ruelles vides !

Fatigué et enivré par le vin,
J'ai souvent dans les rues
Prêté l'oreille au vent désolant,
Saisi de rêves comme un enfant.

N'importe quel salut secret
N'importe quel chant secret,
N'importe quel amour doit résonner
Dans ce léger grondement.

Cette musique m'a aussi chargé
D'une tranquille bonté –
Est-ce le souffle de cette jeunesse
Que j'ai perdue depuis longtemps déjà ?
