Άκου έν’ όνειρο ψυχή μου και της ομορφιάς θεά. Μου εφαινότουν οπώς ήμουν μετ’ εσένα μία νυχτιά. Σ’ ένα ωραίο περιβολάκι περπατούσαμε μαζί. Όλα ελάμπανε τ’ αστέρια και τα κοίταζες εσύ. Εγώ τσόλεα: Πέστε, αστέρια, είν’ κανέν’ από τ’ εσάς, που να λάμπει από ’κει απάνου σαν τα μάτια της κυράς; Πέστε αν είδετε ποτέ σας σ’ άλλη τέτοια ωραία μαλλιά, τέτοιο χέρι, τέτοιο πόδι, τέτοια αγγελική θωριά; Τέτοιο σώμα ωραίον οπ’ όποιος το κοιτάζει ευθύς ρωτά: Αν είν’ άγγελος εκείνος, πώς δεν έχει τα φτερά; Ό,τι είπα αυτά τα λόγια, μου εφάνηκανε ομπρός άλλες κόρες στολισμένες με του φεγγαριού το φως. Εχορεύανε πιασμένες απ΄τα χέρια τα λευκά, κι όλες τους επολεμούσαν να μου πάρουν την καρδιά. Τότε άκουσα το χείλι το δικό σου να μου πη: Πώς σου φαίνονται; Και σούπα: Είναι άσκημες πολύ. Εσύ έκαμες ετότες γέλιο τόσο αγγελικό, που μου φάνηκε πως είδα ανοιχτό τον ουρανό. Και παράμερα σ’ επήρα εισέ μία τρανταφυλλιά κι έπεσά σου αγάλι αγάλι στην ολόλευκη αγκαλιά. Κάθε φίλημα ψυχή μου όπου μόδινες γλυκά, εξεφύτρωνε άλλο ρόδο από την τρανταφυλλιά. Όλη νύχτα εξεφυτρώσαν, ως οπούλαμψεν η αυγή, που μας ηύρε και τους δυο μας με την όψη μας χλωμή. Τούτο είν’ τ’ όνειρο ψυχή μου. Τώρα στέκεται εις εσέ, να το κάμεις ν’ αληθέψει και να θυμηθείς για με.

Meinen Traum vernimm, o Seele Und der Schönheit Göttin fromm. Träumte mir im Schlaf, ich wäre Eines Nachts mit dir ganz froh. In ’nem wunderschönen Garten Wandelten wir zwei als Paar. Alle Himmelssterne strahlten, Und du schautest sie dir an. Und ich fragte: Sternlein, meldet, Ist denn eins von euch da hoch, Das genauso prächtig glänzet Wie der Liebsten Augen bloß? Sagt mir, habt ihr je gesehen Sonst so fein’ und schönes Haar, Solche Hände, solche Schenkel, Solch ein Antlitz engelhaft? Schön ist dieser Leib, dass jeder Ihn erblickt und gleich sich fragt, –Ist denn etwa da ein Engel– Wo er seine Flügel hat. Als ich dieses Wort gesprochen, Schien es mir, ich hätt’ erblickt Andre Mädel, voll umflossen Von des Vollmonds hellem Licht. Munter tanzten sie zusammen, Wogten Hände weiß und blank, Und mit großem Eifer rangen Um mein’ Herzensgunst ganz hart. Deine Lippe dann vernahm ich Fragend, ob ich sie begehr’: Na, wie sind sie denn? Und sagt’ ich: Hässlich sind sie allzu sehr. Darauf kam von dir ein Lachen, Engelhaft und himmlisch nett, Dass mir schien, gesehn zu haben Aufgemacht das Sternenzelt. Und ich nahm dich dann beiseite, Dicht an einem Rosenstrauch, Langsam fiel ich dir zur Seite, Und in weiße Arme auch. Immer jedes neue Küsschen, Das du, meine Seele, gabst, Ließ auch seine Rose sprießen An des Rosenbusches Ast. Allnächtlich erblühten Rosen Bis zur Morgenröte’ Licht, Und wir waren noch beim Kosen, Und mit bleichem Angesicht.
