Le faon tacheté se tient tranquille près d'elle, D'un signe il se fait caresser ; Elle a apprivoisé le jeune loup De son regard gracieux. Sur la mousse couverte de rosée, La belle avance en chantant, Le soleil du matin jette autour d'elle Un manteau d'or. Ô puissé-je alors être la claire fontaine Qu'elle choisit comme miroir ! Sa bouche rouge y rit Lorsqu'elle y fait rayonner ses cheveux. Elle y rit et en plus chante : « Ô joyeux vagabondage ! Mon esprit est comme le vent, vent vent, Qui peut le saisir !
