Gewitter im Juni
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Sonne krankt, Gebirge kauert,
Schwarze Wetterwolkenwand
Mit geduckten Kräften lauert,
Niedrig flatten scheue Vögel,
Graue Schatten übers Land.
Donner, lange schon zu hören,
Poltert lauter los und klingt
Herrlich auf zu Paukenchören,
Draus trompetenhell und golden
Blitz um Blitz den Schwall durchdringt.
Regen stürzt in dichten Güssen
Gläsern, kalt und silberfahl,
Rennt in Bächen, rauscht in Flüssen
Wild wie lang verhaltenes Schluchzen
Nieder ins erschreckte Tal.

Thunderstorm in June
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The sun is ailing, the mountains cower,
A black bank of thunder clouds
Is lowering with suppressed strength,
Shy birds flutter low,
Grey shadows upon the land.
Thunder, already audible for quite some time,
Begins to crash more loudly and
Gloriously swells to choirs of tympani,
Outdoors bright and golden as trumpets
Lightning flash upon lightning flash penetrates the torrent.
Rain plunges down in thick showers
Glassy, cold and silvery pale,
Runs in streams, rushes in rivers
Wildly, like long-suppressed sobbing,
Down into the startled valley.
