Everywhere it wishes to become autumn -- Though asters yet and dahlias Glow in the garden with joyful miens, They nevertheless bear secret pain. The evening mountains dream now So golden and red along the blue ribbon, As if round about in the broad land Only radiance and air mattered. My dreams, too, adorn themselves And hum beloved melodies of youth And undertake garlanded journeys home And have a silent and solemn gaze. But all the same my deepest spirit knows: Another of the sunny times of my life Is slipping away And shall today, tomorrow already be gone.
