Veselo cvetiki v pole pestrejut; ich po nočam osvežaet rosa, dnëm ich luči blagodatnye grejut, laskovo smotrjat na nich nebesa. S babočkoj pestroj, s gudjaščej pčeloju, s vetrom im ljubo vesti razgovor, Veselo cvetikam v pole vesnoju, mil im rodimogo polja prostor! Vot oni vidjat v okne, za rešëtkoj, ticho kačaetsja blednyj cvetok... Solnca ne znaja, pečal'nyj i krotkij, vyros on v mračnych stenach odinok. Cvetikam žal' ego, bednogo, stalo, chorom oni k sebe brata zovut: ,,Solnce tebja nikogda ne laskalo, bros' ėti steny, začachnëš' ty tut!`` ,,Net!`` - otvečal on, - ,,chot' veselo v pole, i narjažaet vas jarko vesna, no ne zaviduju vašej ja dole i ne pokinu syrogo okna. Pyšno cvetite! Svoej krasotoju radujte, brat'ja, sčastlivych ljudej. JA budu cvest' dlja togo, kto sud'boju sonca lišën i polej. JA budu cvest' dlja togo, kto stradaet. Uznika ja utešaju odin. Pust' on, vzgljanuz na menja, vspominaet zelen' rodimych dolin!``
