Veselo cvetiki v pole pestrejut; ikh po nocham osvezhajet rosa, dnjom ikh luchi blagodatnye grejut, laskovo smotrjat na nikh nebesa. S babochkoj pestroj, s gudjashchej pcheloju, s vetrom im ljubo vesti razgovor, Veselo cvetikam v pole vesnoju, mil im rodimogo polja prostor! Vot oni vidjat v okne, za reshjotkoj, tikho kachajetsja blednyj cvetok... Solnca ne znaja, pechal'nyj i krotkij, vyros on v mrachnykh stenakh odinok. Cvetikam zhal' jego, bednogo, stalo, khorom oni k sebe brata zovut: ,,Solnce tebja nikogda ne laskalo, bros' `eti steny, zachakhnjosh' ty tut!`` ,,Net!`` - otvechal on, - ,,khot' veselo v pole, i narjazhajet vas jarko vesna, no ne zaviduju vashej ja dole i ne pokinu syrogo okna. Pyshno cvetite! Svojej krasotoju radujte, brat'ja, schastlivykh ljudej. Ja budu cvest' dlja togo, kto sud'boju sonca lishjon i polej. Ja budu cvest' dlja togo, kto stradajet. Uznika ja uteshaju odin. Pust' on, vzgljanuz na menja, vspominajet zelen' rodimykh dolin!``
