Hoe vrolijk is toch Mei de tijd brengt vreugde voort, en bloempjes velerlei, eenieder naar zijn soort, dat zijn de fijne rode roos, het veil en klaver groen, van ware liefde scheiden is geen doen. Een vogeltje ging zingen de tijd bracht vreugde voort haar liefde deed me smelten haar stem had me bekoord: Mag ik, mijn lief, je vragen vrij geef toch gehoor aan mij. Ach toe nou, liefste meisje kom bij mij. Na vele diepe zuchten kom ik toch zeker weer, na kommer en na lijden zie ik je blik zo teer. Ik bied je, die ik kiezen wou, wat ik je geven zou, mijn trouwe, jonge hart dat is voor jou.
