Bächlein, so munter
Rauschend zumal,
[Wallen]1 hinunter
Silbern in's Thal.
Die schwebende Welle, dort eilt sie dahin!
Tief spiegeln sich Fluren und Himmel darin.
Was ziehst Du mich, sehnend verlangender Sinn,
Hinab?

Grüßender Sonne
Spielendes Gold,
Hoffende Wonne
Bringest Du hold.
Wie labt mich Dein selig begrüßendes Bild!
Es lächelt am tiefblauen Himmel so mild,
Und hat mir das Auge mit Thränen gefüllt! -
Warum?

Grünend umkränzet
Wälder und Höh'!
Schimmernd erglänzet
Blüthenschnee!
So dränget sich Alles zum bräutlichen Licht;

piene di profumi 
di fiori!
Il vostro alito è un saluto di voluttà!
Che avete fatto al cuore che palpita
e vuole seguirvi sulla via del vento,
dove?

I ruscelletti, 
che scorrono allegri
vogliono scendere argentei 
giù a valle.
Onde in movimento, affrettatevi giù!
Nel vostro fondo si specchiano pianure e cielo.
Dove mi chiami, desiderio pieno di nostalgia e di tenerezza,
laggiù?

Oro del sole, 
che mi saluti scherzando,
porti la dolce voluttà 
della speranza!
Come mi allieta il tuo divino aspetto che mi saluta!
Sorride soave il profondo azzurro del cielo
e mi si riempiono gli occhi di lacrime!
Perché?

Di verde si incoronano 
boschi e colline!
Splende la luce 
della fioritura!
Così tutto si anima di luce nuziale,
spuntano germogli, sbocciano fiori,
hanno trovato ciò che mancava:
e tu?

Anima inquieta! 
Cuore senza pace,
sempre solo lacrime, 
lamenti e dolore?
Anch'io conosco questo tormento!
Chi soddisfa alla fine la gioia che non dà tregua?
