Des Sängers Habe

Language: German (Deutsch)

Schlagt mein ganzes Glück in Splitter,
Nehmt mir alle Habe gleich,
Lasset mir nur meine Zither,
Und ich bleibe froh und reich.

Wenn des Grames Wolken ziehen,
Haucht sie Trost in meine Brust,
Und aus ihrem Golde blühen
Alle Blumen meiner Lust.

Will die Liebe nicht gewähren,
Freundschaft brechen ihre Pflicht,
Kann ich beide stolz entbehren,
Aber meine Zither nicht.

Reißet meines Lebens Sehne,
Wird sie mir ein Kissen sein,
Lullen mich die süßen Töne
In den letzten Schlummer ein.

In den Grund des Tannenhaines
Senkt mich leise dann hinab;
Und statt eines Leichensteines
Stellt die Zither auf mein Grab,

Daß ich, wenn zum stillen Reigen,
Aus des Todes dunklem Bann,
Mitternachts die Geister steigen,
Ihre Saiten rühren kann.1

Note: Schubert received Schlechta's poem in handwritten form. Schlechta's poem was posthumously printed in a substantially revised version in Ephemeren, see below.

Daß ich, wenn aus des Todes Bann
Mitternachts die Geister steigen,

Het bezit van de zanger

Language: Dutch (Nederlands) after the German (Deutsch)

Sla al mijn geluk aan duigen,
Wat je meeneemt? Mij gelijk!
Laat mij alleen wel mijn citer
En ik blijf nog blij en rijk.

Als vol droefheid wolken drijven,
Geeft hij troost mij in mijn lot,
En vanuit zijn schoonheid bloeien
Al mijn bloemen van genot.

Wil de liefde niet floreren,
Blijkt de vriendschap niet solied,
Beide kan ik trots ontberen,
Evenwel mijn citer niet.

Als de lijn breekt van mijn leven,
Zal hij mij tot kussen zijn,
Zingen mij zijn zoete tonen
Zacht in slaap als laatst refrein.

In het bos van sparrenbomen
Graaf mij zacht dan in 't zand;
En zorg dan dat daar geen grafsteen
Maar mijn citer wordt geplant,

Zodat, als des nachts de zielen
Opstaan uit hun donk're ban,
In de stilte dansen willen,
Ik zijn snaren roeren kan.1

1 Herhaling bij Schubert:

Dat, als zij opstaan uit hun ban,
In de stilte dansen willen,
Ik zijn snaren roeren kan.
