Queen and huntress, chaste and fair
Language: English
Available translation(s): FRE NYN SPA
Queen and huntress, chaste and fair,
Now the sun is laid to sleep,
Seated in thy silver chair,
State in wonted manner keep:
  Hesperus entreats thy light,
  Goddess excellently bright.

Earth, let not thy envious shade
Dare itself to interpose;
Cynthia's shining orb was made
Heav'n to clear when day did close;
  Bless us then with wishèd sight,
  Goddess excellently bright.

Lay thy bow of pearl apart,
And thy crystal shining quiver;
Give unto the flying hart
Space to breathe, how short so-ever:
  Thou that mak'st a day of night,
  Goddess excellently bright.

Hymne
Language: Norwegian (Nynorsk)  after the English
Dronning og jegerske, kysk og fager1,
No er sola lagt til kvild,
Sett seg i din stol av sølv
Verda i sin faste skikk
     Hesperus ber deg om ditt lys
     Overmåte strålande gudinne.

Jord, la ikkje din avundsjuke skugge
seg å gå imellom;
Cynthia sin glitrande boge var gjort
For å rydde himmelen ved dagsens ende
     Velsign oss så med vårt lys av lengt,
     Overmåte strålande gudinne.

Sprei din perleboge ut
Og di blanke krystalls -- skjelving;
Skjenk til hjorten2 på si flukt
Pusterom, om enn så kort
     Du som lagar dag frå natt,
     Overmåte strålande gudinne.
