You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Die Liebe saß als Nachtigall

Language: German (Deutsch)

Die Liebe saß als Nachtigall
im Rosenbusch und sang;
es flog der wundersüße Schall
den grünen Wald entlang.

Und wie er klang, da stieg im Kreis
aus tausend Kelchen Duft,
und alle Wipfel rauschten leis',
und leiser ging die Luft;

Die Bäche schwiegen, die noch kaum
geplätschert von den Höh'n,
die Rehlein standen wie im Traum
und lauschten dem Getön.

Und hell und immer heller floß
der Sonne Glanz herein,
um Blumen, Wald und Schlucht ergoß
sich goldig roter Schein.

Ich aber zog den Weg entlang
und hörte auch den Schall.
Ach! was seit jener Stund' ich sang,
war nur sein Widerhall.

Magie de l'amour

Language: French (Français) after the German (Deutsch)

L'Amour se posa, comme un rossignol,
Dans un buisson de roses et chanta ;
Le merveilleux chant si doux
Envahit le bois verdoyant.

Et à son chant se répandirent
Des senteurs de milliers de fleurs,
Et chaque cime d'arbre s'agita doucement
Et plus léger était l'air.

Les ruisseaux étaient silencieux eux qui
Récemment dévalaient des hauteurs ;
Les faons se tenaient comme dans un rêve
Et écoutaient le chant.

Et légers et encore plus légers
Les rayons du soleil scintillaient,
Et sur les fleurs, les arbres et le vallon
L'éclat jaune d'or se répandait.

Mais j'allais mon chemin
et j'entendis aussi le chant.
Hélas ! Depuis ce moment mes chants
ne sont que son écho.
