mi hai fatto una promessa,
e andando in quel paese maledetto,
ti impegnasti a mantenerla.
 
Laggiù, lontano dalla felice Danimarca,
le spiagge sono oscurate dalle brume,
le onde mormorano furiose
e lavano le lacrime dagli scogli.
 
Il mio amato guerriero vestito d'argento
Non farà più ritorno.
Solo il suo fiocco e la sua nera piuma
Si agiteranno funesti sulla sua tomba.
