Blick' unverwandt hinab zum Fluß,

Und sieh durch ihren warmen Guß
Die Flut hinunterwallen.

Hinträumend wird Vergessenheit
Des Herzens Wunde schließen;
Die Seele sieht mit ihrem Leid

så blicka i en ström, där allt
hänböljar och försvinner.

Vad än du mist, vad än du led --
vill du en stund det glömma,
sänk blott din blick, se ned, se ned
i vågorna, som strömma.

Se ned, tills ögat tårbemängt
knappt skönjer, hur de ila ;
i stilla drömmeri försänkt
får då ditt hjärta vila.

Som i en dröm du ser ditt själv --
en bild som vattnet bryter --
hur det förbi på tidens älv
med sina sorger flyter.
