Was vermeid' ich denn die Wege

Language: German (Deutsch)

Was vermeid' ich denn die Wege,
Wo die [andren]1 Wandrer gehn,
Suche mir versteckte Stege
Durch [verschneite]2 Felsenhöhn?

Habe ja doch nichts begangen,
Daß ich Menschen sollte scheun -
Welch ein thörichtes Verlangen
Treibt mich in die Wüstenein?

Weiser stehen auf den [Straßen]3,
Weisen auf die Städte zu,
Und ich wandre sonder Maßen,
Ohne Ruh', und suche Ruh'.

Einen Weiser seh' ich stehen
Unverrückt vor meinem Blick;
Eine Straße muß ich gehen,
Die noch Keiner ging zurück.

Poteau indicateur

Language: French (Français) after the German (Deutsch)

Pourquoi est‑ce que j'évite les chemins
Empruntés par les autres voyageurs,
Que je recherche des traverses cachées
Au travers des hautes roches enneigées ?

Je n'ai pourtant rien commis
Qui me ferais craindre les hommes,
Quel folle pulsion
Me mène en ces endroits déserts ?

Les poteaux indicateurs sur les routes
Montrent le chemin de la ville,
Et je marche dans une certaine mesure
Sans repos, je cherche la quiétude.

Je vois planté là un poteau,
Immobile devant mon regard ;
Je dois suivre une route
D'où encore personne n'est revenu.
