È morta
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Available translation(s): ENG
Morta e ieri ancor, qui vagheggiai,
il lampeggiar di due bei rai!
Oh! l'amor mio, dove fuggì?
morte spietata me lo rapì,
morta e ier la vagheggiai,
morta, morta!
morta, morta!

She is dead
Language: English  after the Italian (Italiano)
Dead, and yesterday still, here gazed about
the sparkling of two beautiful eyes!
Oh! my love, where has she gone?
Pitiless death stole her from me.
Dead, and yesterday still, she gazed about.
Dead, dead!
She no longer hears the oaths
nor the melodious sound of my laments--
She is dead!
Now one angel more is living in heaven.
Yesterday still with her sighing
Paradise seemed to open to me.
It was her voice, serene song,
that calmed the suffering in my bosom.
Dead! and yesterday she stretched out her hand
to the poor man with a human face.
She was a mother who tearfully
prayed to heaven for the pitiful woman.
Dead, dead!
