Stanca, l'estate il capo ha reclinato,
e specchia nell'acqua il suo volto luminoso.
Io stanco procedo, e impolverato,
e mi incammino lungo il viale ombroso.
 
Soffia tra i pioppi una brezza leggera,
dietro di me il rosso del cielo si fa più forte,
di fronte a me l'ansia della sera
ed il buio che avanza, e la morte.
 
Ed io ancora cammino stanco e impolverato,
e alle mie spalle rimane esitando
la giovinezza, che il suo bel volto ha piegato,
e più non vuole rimanermi a fianco.
