Geen rozig glanzen schemert de dag tot rust!
De avondnevel stijgt bij het strand omhoog,
Waar door verdroogde rotsengrassen
Van1 stervende winden gesuizel wandelt.
 
Nooit méér zwaarmoedig beefde de najaarswind
Door 't dode gras op 't zinkende heuveltje,
Waar van mijn jeugdvriend de as nog
Onder de treurende wilgen sluimert.
 
Hem tranen off'ren zal ik als 't blad weer valt,
Ook als het meiloof straks in het bos weer ruist,
Tot mij, van 'n mooiere ster, de aarde
Vriend'lijk in 't dansen der werelden toeglanst.
