Ma vie se déplace en bougonnant en avant,
Elle monte et descend sur des vagues qui ondulent,
Ici elle se cabre, là elle s'élance en bas,
Dans des secousses sauvages, des arcs élevés.

À travers la vallée silencieuse, les champs verts
Elle murmure maintenant avec des doux tremblements,
Ayant envie de paix, d'un monde calme,
Elle se réjouit dans cette vie tranquille.

Mais ne trouvant jamais ce qu'elle cherche,
Et toujours soupirant, ma vie gronde encore,
Maussade elle coule en fuite constante,
Jamais contente, jamais heureuse.
